Show & Tell -Treasures Re-Discovered

For today's Show & Tell I'm posting a few little treasures I found when doing a big clean up. These little treasures were from my pilgrimage to the Holy Land, way back in 1988.

Most of the cards were given away to friends - except these 4 must have been left over. The cards have real pressed flowers and petals of flowers from the Israel. I can't remember exactly where in Israel I bought them but I think it was somewhere within the old city of Jerusalem.

This serviette holder was one I kept for myself .... but of course I forgot about it. Now it's rediscovered so I'll have to put it to good use. We had spent 10 days at Nof Ginosar by the Lake of Galilee and travelled around the area. This brings back lovely memories of that trip in '88.

Show & Tell - Grandpa Moses

A few years back a happy trio came into existance via my EP Designs studio - Three little bears with delightful personalities. I posted two of them previously on this blog - Daisy Bear and Maisy Bear. Today I'd like to introduce to you Grandpa Moses

Here is Grandpa Moses in his rocking chair. He is a very lovable and charming bear.

Grandpa Moses love his rocking chair. He has his own leather bound book into which he plans to write his memoirs some day. He keeps his pipe handy, although this is now out of habit as he dosen't smoke anymore.

Grandpa is dressed in his special buttoned vest with fob-watch chain in his pocket and a chequered scarf around his neck. The old straw hat is handy when Grandpa takes a snooze as he can tilt it over his eyes and rest peacefully.

He's a content and happy bear who loves a cosy spot in a warm & loving home to spend his days.

Show and Tell - Four Legged Friends

It's amazing how attached we can become to our dear little four-legged friends. The pooch seen in the photo below ... ie. the one in the frame, sitting next to a teddy.... was my dearest little friend. I was given Rastus when he was just 8 weeks old (he was already named, so it stayed). He followed me around everywhere. We had such gorgeous cuddles & fun times. The photo was taken when he was about 14 years old. Not long after Rastus passed away. I couldn't believe how distraught I could have been, but I was. I was so upset that I cried daily for about 2 weeks ... so much , I eventually caught an awful cold.

Good friends are special but these little creatures I'm sure were created by God to remind us how we should love unconditionally ... which is what these pets do.

Now you might be wondering what the little dog in the front and the book have to do with anything........... They were gifts given to me from friends who understood what I was feeling. They knew how special Rastus was to me.

The black & white dog looks so real even though he's such a tiny thing. Of course, he doesn't replace Rastus, but funnily, he was a comfort, looking ever so cute; and knowing that a true friend cared about how I was feeling.

The book titled Give Us This Day is a delightful book based on the Lord's Prayer. Each page is beautifully illustrated by Tasha Tudor an American artist born in Boston and grew up in New England in the contryside.

This is a special book to own ..... in fact, I didn't realise what a little treasure I had been given until recently. Tasha Tudor's illustrations are so beautiful.

I was well and truly an adult when my loyal friend died but I'm not ashamed to admit I cried over his death. I still miss him today - even though almost 20 years have passed.

God is good .... and he does supply us with all our needs.

Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway -but the LINDT Man will know! YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH.

This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!

It takes less than a minute Work this out as you read .Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!

This is not one of those waste of time things ...... it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10).

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold).

3. Add 5.

4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator .

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1759 .. If you haven't, add 1758.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number.

The first digit of this was your original number(i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).

The next two numbers are YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2009) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

Show and Tell - Pink Dish

This delightful little pink dish sits on a small bench in my room. It once belonged to a very dear friend of mine. My friend - Joy - had the dish placed on a side table next to her big comfy lounge chair - many times quietly sitting there to pray.

Joy would sometimes tell me how this dish would remind her of me, so she would pray for me. It's a pretty dish and her knowing about the creative work I did imagined it was one of my own creations. It wasn't of course, but it was enough for her to think of me and pray. Even when she was ill and suffering awfully, she would offer it up and continue to pray for her family, friends and anyone who came to mind.

This dear friend was called home to Jesus in August 2006. A simple housewife, whose love and devotion to Jesus led her through an amazing journey in life. A woman of great faith and God was able to use her powerfully to do His work.

I miss my dear friend Joy as she was like a second mother to me. This pink dish was given to me by her daughter Maree, also a dear friend of mine who knew how her mother would pray for me each time she laid eyes on it.

It reminds me of my dear friend and of how, even in her moments of darkest suffering, would pray for others. Friends like this are very special.

Gift Treasury

Aren't these gorgeous vintage style brooches? Why is it so hard to part with gorgeous buys like these. They are intended to be given as gifts but I wish I didn't like them so much as it makes it difficult to give away. Each items is each hand made and the earrings came as a thank you gift from the seller who made them to match the brooches I bought - it was a lovely surprise to find them in the package when they arrived. You can find similar items as these on BidMate.com.au I couldn't believe the price of these bracelets as they were an absolute bargain - well under $5 each and they came inside these simple but cute little colour matching boxes. The amazing bracelets were also purchased from a seller on BidMate - I'm keeping the one on the right for 'yours truly' and giving the pink one on the left as a gift. I've already worn mine to a Mystery Dinner where all th guest were dressed up for the occasion. The bracelet fit snuggly over my watch so it kept hidden.

Well, these treasures are not of the 'eating' kind but I'm sure the set did take part in many delightful teas in it's heyday. I've collected a few of these gorgeous little sugar, creamer sets. The very first ones I found were bought so as to 'recreate' them - I just didn't have the heart to paint over them, so I decided not to and simply 'keep' them .... is this how a collection begins? I have a few more sets to show you in the coming days.

This set was a great little bargain - $3 for three pieces .... wait 'tll you see the other sets :)

Temporary Pause But I'm Still Around

I should have posted this a few weeks back - my apologies to my blogging friends. I am pausing temporarily with posts on this blog. Sometimes I wonder why I have three blogs on the go, but I do like this one and I enjoy sharing my little treasures with you.

I am working on a couple of projects - one of them being a competition on EP Designs; plus I'm adding/extending Precious Treasures. So for a short while I need to spend time on those but I will be back with more treasures to share with you here. Actually I do have more gorgeous little items to show you, so do stay tuned.

Flowers, Plumes and Trinkets!

The best thing to do would be to find a nice ornate treasure chest to store all the bits and pieces I find that I simply can't part with. Oh I'm so sentimental ..... a day will come when I'll just give them away. I do that sometimes. I keep things for so long and then it's 'goodbye', lol.

I love the blue plume in the tiny blue bottle. It's not an ink pot but a gorgeous little perfume bottle from Israel. The pink trinket container sits on one of my recreated coasters - It's not a long lost treasure but looked nice in this setting. As you may have noticed over the last few posts I seem to have a liking for small items and miniatures ..... just as well, if they were large items I'd have trouble storing them.

Well, I'm off to search for a treasure chest.

Inside The Treasure Chest

Oooh, don't you just love digging out long 'lost' treasures? There's not a whole lot to show you this time around - I picked these out to photograph because I wore them regularly many years ago. The long strand of pearls on the top right and the short pearl necklace on the left belonged to my mother .... until I 'borrowed' them ......permanently :)

Some of the other pieces were gifts from special friends and a couple were found while fossicking through opp shops. The bracelets with turquoise and coral stones were worn so much that the closure clips don't stay closed any more. I tried them on but the bracelets would just undo and fall as I moved around. I don't think I could throw them out though ... they'll be one of those things that get stored away again until I can think of a use for them or find a way to fix them.

Tiny Treasured Friends

We may not all be avid collectors of various items, but at some stage in our lives we probably do tend to put together collections of one thing or another - whether intentionally or not there's bound to be some 'collectable' hidden in a cupboard, box, drawer or garage.

I didn't intend to collect miniature animals - it just happened. You know what it's like - a gift from a friend, a souvenir from a holiday, another gift ... then another... and so on. Before you know it you have a 'collection'. I don't mind though - they're cute little creatures. Most of these tiny fellows have a story behind them too. I eventually displayed them in one of those collectables unit in the shape of a house - had them out on display for years until I decided I'd had enough of keeping them dust free - so packed them away.
... now they're rediscovered .... hmm, not sure if I'll put them out on display again, unless I can find a dust free glass display box.

Mini Art Treasures

A few more rediscovered treasures which have been in hiding for years .... since 1988. Collected while on an overseas trip I think it's about time they are put on display. The round plate was purchased from an outdoor bazaar in Israel; the miniature paintings on gold & silver leaf from San Remo Italy; the small round, yellow box from Florence; the rose veneer inlay from Sorrento; and the oval framed floral tapestry from a little craft shop in a town called Castiglione.

One of the nice things about rediscovering items like these is the reminiscing that comes with it..... oh to be able to head off overseas again..... markets, bazaars, cafes....... Well I'll dream a bit more later.
I think these would look great arranged together on a wall with a few other art treasures. I'll have to find just the right spot for them. In the meantime I'll be digging some more to see what else I've kept in hiding.

Little Treasures Re-discovered

Miniature collectables or dust gatherers? After my last major clean out where I went too far I decided to take some time to 'think' about what goes out next. These are just a few rediscovered treasures which have been in hiding. Occasionally when I tidy up and can't decide what to do, or where to put certain things they usually end up in a bag or drawer or box. The only thing is they end up staying there for ages, sometimes years before I find them again.

These miniatures are not items of any great value except that they are sentimental in some ways. The little pink & gold Limoges teapot was given to me by a very dear friend; the other items are mementos from overseas trips. The milk jug cover is something I bought for myself a few years ago but have never used it..... Well it's out now so it will be put to use finally.
I'm still moving things about the house so will post a few more rediscovered treasures over the coming days.

The Plugboard is Back - Add your Blog

I had a Plugboard problem recently where I had to remove an inappropriate site. Unfortunately I couldn't access my plugboard account to remove it so I decided to remove the whole board until access was restored.

Anyhow, all is fixed now and the plugboard has been restored in the sidebar. Feel free to add your blogs here - all I ask is that you return the favour and add me to your blog. The current sites will remain for the time being but I will be looking at starting anew to make it a blogs only Plugboard.

Amazing Street Art by Julian Beever

I've seen artists at work on their pavement masterpieces in the streets of Melbourne but ususally the works have been contained within a small area. It's amazing what can be achieved though - their talents are impressive and some of the works memorable.

I had to share some photos with you of pavement art with a difference - amazing images and scenes with more to them than meets the eye, and created by an artist with an amazing gift - Julian Beever .... I've seen these pictures before so when they arrived again in another email I just had to share them.

So sit back with a cuppa and take a close look ....

My Clown ..... He's Gone.

Do you ever do something and as soon as you've done it you wish you didn't? Or are you one of those people who spend years hoarding 'stuff', then one day decide to have a huge clean out, only to realise you've gone overboard with the clean out??

I've gone through huge 'clean outs' in the past but the last time I did it I eventually regretted getting rid of one particular item. I guess it usually happens that you regret giving away or throwing away some things but you get over it and tell yourself 'it's all for the best'. And even more so it's bound to happen when you're trying to be ruthless.

Here is a photo of a clown planter I painted over 30 years ago. During my early years at RMIT I found work painting decorative plaster statues of various personalities including a range of clowns. Money earned from this work eventually helped me purchase my very first painting from an exhibition at a local art gallery. Before I ceased this work I selected this clown to paint and keep as a memento of my time in painting these personalities .... also to keep as a nice heirloom which would one day be handed down to grandchildren.

I kept my clown on display for years and it would even 'accompany' me on occasions when work would take me away from home. My clown would make hotel rooms seem more homely.

Perhaps he's not the most prettiest looking object, and not necessarily a 'treasure' but he was a happy fellow who brightened things up and a memento of a certain era of my life. Anyhow, in my desperate madness to ruthlessly clean out as much as possible he was sent to the 'sale' bin. I put him up for auction on eBay and sold him ........ Oooh what an awful feeling of regret. But it was too late - he was sold and gone forever. If I had a cooling off period I may have changed my mind but unfortunately I only realised my regret once he was sold.

At least I have these photos as a reminder ..... and maybe ... well just maybe, it's all for the best ...?

Good heavens! I just had a terrible scare when I thought I have not updated this since I had to start working to pay the ridiculous food and petrol prices to feed my kids... You would not believe how tidy my house now is. I hope they bring chocolate!.I am hopped up on caffeine with discovering time doesn't stand still, driving from one end of the city to the other, just generally being a nuisance to anyone unfortunate to cross my path, my day starts with the dawn patrol from the second star on the right, straight on to sun down and beyond. When someone mentioned the concept of supermarkets, many people threw up their arms in disgust and swore they’d never take over from the general store.

More people threw up their arms when petrol station first introduced self service, too.

Then scanning bar codes instead of manually entering prices into a cash register stirred up some feathers.

The largest change to shopping in recent times has been the introduction of online shopping options. This is a big step for many people to take, for a number of reasons.

A certain amount of familiarity with computers and the Internet is required to be able to shop online. However, it is not a large amount of technical knowledge that is necessary and much of it can be learned quickly with a bit of trial and error. Knowing how to enter an internet browser and then key in a url is really the basis of all online activity.

The following list of points can be used to assess any given online retailer before choosing to order goods or give over any information.

Recommendations

Obviously, an unknown site has to be judged on its apparent merits. However, if you can go to a retailer with a recommendation from a friend or other trusted source, you can already have some confidence in the site’s credibility.

Links from a trusted site can also be counted as a recommendation – reputable sites do not want to be associated with disreputable business practices.

If you use a site from a recommendation and receive any problems, make sure you pass this back to whoever recommended to you so they can change their approach in future.

Contact Details

A site that has nothing to hide will always include the means by which you can directly contact them. Each site should, as a minimum, provide you with an email address and phone number; many sites also provide a postal address and fax number as alternative means of contact.

Security of Information

There are different types of security processes available to internet sites.

Before providing information to a site, be it a retailer or otherwise, it is wise to check their privacy policy. In simple terms, the policy will state how they will use your information; the main clause in web policies is the confidentiality of your email address and other details. Unless you like to receive many unsolicited emails, don’t give your email address unless their policy protects it from distribution.

When purchasing online, there are methods of protecting your financial details as well.

* Never send credit card details via email as this is not secure.

* Don’t send card details if the site is not clearly secure

* Request postal or fax contact details for forwarding card details

* Use outside parties such as paymate or clickbank

Check what guarantees and refund policies the retailer offers.

Due to the nature of buying without seeing, many online retailers have full refund policies within certain time frames. Of course, normal standards apply – the product must be as it was and certain products can’t be returned for health and hygiene reasons.

Check also on back order and ‘lost in the mail’ policies. Particularly for more expensive items or orders, it may be worth enquiring about insurance for the order as well – some sites include or offer this with every order.

Openness and Clarity of costs

It is to be expected that ordering of products online will incur a delivery charge.

Some points on costs are:

* Do they use regular mail or a courier?

* Does the package need to be signed for?

* Are packaging costs based on a sliding scale, weight or a set cost per order?

* Are such costs clearly listed and easily found?

* Be aware of extra costs – special delivery costs may only apply in certain circumstances

Ease of navigation

Generally speaking, a site that is easy to navigate and find information from is interested in providing customer service. They present their stock and their policies openly to give the purchaser a fair representation of the business.

Consider the difference between a clean, well-set out friendly shop and a dingy, crowded shop. Which would you prefer to buy from? The same principles and reactions apply to online retailers.

Branding

Although it is not a guarantee by itself, the fact that you easily recognise the site or product name increases the credibility of the site you are considering. For instance, in judging between site X and Coles Online purely by name, you would assume that Coles Online is a reputable site to use whereas site X is unknown and other factors would be considered.

Ranking

When you look for a retailer on a search engine such as Google or yahoo, the top ranked sites will be listed first.

A high ranking site is likely to have been around a bit longer than other sites and has a certain amount of credibility.

Low ranking sites, however, are not necessarily bad sites in any way.

My 5 Must Do's for maintaining balance when operating your home-based business:Look After Your Physical Health

Balance is constantly a work in progress for a work-at-home mum (WAHM). You need to keep in mind the basics. The first is to take care of yourself and your health. You are not valuable to anyone if you you haven't got good health. This means taking care of the simple things, for example:

* Start the day with a healthy nutritional breakfast

* Exercise regularly

* Get enough sleep

If you feel rested and you're in a good frame of mind, your productivity will be higher.

Take Time Out

Don't spend all your time running around after everyone else and have nothing left for yourself. Make time for yourself. Include in your schedule time to just relax and process what needs to be done. Write a 'To Do' list and prioritise it. This may need to be done several times during the day as different projects arise.

Get Support

Without support, its easy to feel overwhelmed and sometimes isolated. Having supportive, healthy relationships is essential for maintaining balance and creating success.

Ask for support from family and close friends. Learn to resource support in your local area if you don't have a close family. Find ways to reduce the energy-draining tasks in your life. The Mum's school network is a great place to start.

Network

Moral support is just as important as physical support. Networking with other work-at-home mums is a great form of moral support and inspiration. It's also a great way to foster and share ideas, hopes, and have your questions answered. You may even be able to share your own experience and answer the questions fom other mums.

It's important to have a connection with other like-minded mums. There are plenty of home-based business forums to join online. Experience the mentoring and many friendships available.

Take risks

Our roles as mums are primarily to nurture, care for and...naturally.....be cautious. Dare to challenge yourself in your business. Set your goals high but be realistic. Allow yourself to go higher than you ever imagined you could. The flipside of fear is courage. Yes, it is scary out of our comfort zone but it also presents a challenge to make a difference in what you do in your home-based business. Express who you are and what you believe in through work that is meaningful and purposeful. Follow your dream, and become a better person for the effort. The benefits of achieving your dreams and goals are invaluable.

Retro Table Lamps

Lighting can set the mood for a room. I found these table lamps a while back to add to my items for sale on eBay. They turned out to be a popular item.
These table lamps, constructed of fused glass and hand painted, give out a nice & cosy warm glow. I like them & chose these designs because thery were a little different. The design seen below is titled Ballet Dancers.

.... Schools Out, a nice cool look with colourful fish swimming along.

Table Runners

Table runners and decorative tablecloths were a popular seller at my yearly Christmas Exhibitions. In the 'hobby business' days I took great delight in doing the rounds of the remnant bins at stores such as Lincraft & Spotlight. I was always on the lookout for beautiful fabrics and trims. As a result my collection of fabrics grew .... this was rather odd for me considering I am not a sewer - but my mum is. So we teamed up and put together a range of 'one-off' designs. Here are just a few of them.

I enjoyed immensely designing tassels to match, using only the bits of trims I could find.

.... very simple but stylish mini runner with soft body, metallic tassels

...... very rich & regal looking green jacquard with gold braid trim & matching hand made tassels.

...... I couldn't resist trying something different. Black tassel fringing makes a bold statement on this runner.

...... a floral tapestry runner with a double row of bullion fringing.

Tablerunners are a great decor accessory.

Here are a few items related around the Singer sewing theme. Vintage Singer sewing machines are a classic collectable, full of vintage charm. But if you can't own the real thing then perhaps a vintage style print would do, or a collectable sewing box to keep your sewing accessories.....

..... or how about a miniature singer sewing machine storage box. This one is purely decorative & does not have any moving parts, but is an absolutely gorgeous accessory to add to any collection. The top part slides open to reveal storage space for a few cotton reels & small accessories.

These items would make an ideal gift for anyone into crafts or even anyone who collects vintage sewing accessories. Definitely cute enough to have on show.

Sorting through photos of my work I came across this one which shows some of my Recreated Treasures. Old candleholders have been given a new look with a paint finish and beaded fringing.
The oval tray - an ex-silver tray, has roses decoupaged onto it.

The items are all sitting gracefully on a red lace runner with gold fringing.

World Youth Day Sydney 2008

As at this posting there are 33 days to go for World Youth Day in Sydney.
Preparation for this event is amazing. Organised by the Catholic Church, WYD brings together young people from around the globe to celebrate and learn about their faith on a more regular basis. WYD08 will be the largest event Australia has ever hosted. It will attract over 125,000 international visitors - more than the 2000 Olympics.

In our own parish we are currently preparing for the pilgrims we are hosting in the week preceding WYD - Days In The Diocese. Our parish is hosting 91 Irish Pilgrims and 10 from Ghana .... and still counting. It's an exciting time for all of us. I'll be looking forward to meeting them all.

WYD08 will mark the first visit of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to Australia. WYD is an invitation from the Pope to the youth of the world to celebrate their faith around a particular theme. Everyone is welcome to attend.

They say that great gifts can come in small packages so here are a few cute, little gift picks to browse through. The first photo shows three divinely scented natural soaps in a pink fluffy organza gift bag, sitting pretty on a pink & gold recreated bowl.

A tower of mini cushions add a whimsical, decorative touch to any room. These three are made from a gorgeous gold jacquard drape material, and trimmed with cute off-white bobble fringing.

Useful and collectable - this jewellery pouch is nestled nicely in a recreated bowl. They can be used teamed up together or separated. The jewellery pouch is handy to hold your precious jewels when travelling, and the little bowl can be left on display as a mini decor piece .... although I'd probably fill it with chocolates.

Pin / Brooch Cushion Cups

Pin cushions in a silver cup, goblet, bowl or drinkware were a popular little item at my EP Designs Sales a few years back. All silverware that was in good condition remained silver, those in need of a new look were recreated first with my painted finishes before the cushion & embellishments were added. I didn't think to photograph all my work back then but here is one design I managed to photograph. A couple more designs will be on view at my EP Designs blog.

The rosette with bow and beaded tassel were hand made to suit the design; plus the crushed velvet panne with braid trim add to a classic regal look for the pin cushion. It's one of those items which could be used as a stylish sewing accessory, or for storing your brooches & hat pins. Either way it makes a lovely little item to place on a dresser or side table ...... and of course, you have another recreated treasure to proudly display.

Stencilled Quilts - Teddies and Golliwogs

I've been browsing through images of my past work and since the last post on teddy bear tea parties I thought we could join the teddies for a picnic too. The quilts were 'try outs' for me and I was experimenting with stencilling at the time. I made three in total but can't find the photo of the third one. A fun project, and though time consuming I enjoyed the quilt making.

The Golly quilt was my favourite possibly because the golliwog was a favourite of mine as a young girl. This quilt was given an aged look by dipping the stenciled panels into 'coffee water'.
All quilts were made to be for multi purpose use so they were perfect as a bed quilt for a child's room, a decorative throw or wall hanging.

I bought this piece of material as a remnant and found it to be perfect as the backing for the Golly quilt. A very busy design with interesting details ..... and reversible.

A third quilt was also produced but have not been able to find the photo of it. Well, I'm not sure if I'll ever stencil more quilts in the future but it was fun doing these and certainly different to my recreated items.

All quilts have long since found new homes :)

Teddy Bears and Tea Parties

On the theme of teddy bears and tea parties I thought I'd show you a collection of mini teapots.
They're still a little over sized for Maisy and Daisy bears, however, these gorgeous little teapots are just right for a twosome tea party (using very Small teacups), or would quench the thirst of at least six or seven of Maisy's friends.

It's difficult to pick a favourite out of this group of teapots because they're all gorgeous but I quite favour the three in the front. In fact, you could use all of them at a tea party, each for a different brew. I'm sure that Maisy would approve..... and Daisy would only be too happy to bring a basket or two full of her beautiful, fragrant blooms, straight from her garden.

Now I must head off to find some pretty cups & saucers ..... or perhaps you could help find some and let us know as soon as possible. And of course we need cake plates, serving trays and a selection of delicious cup cakes, slices and biscuits.

If anyone has any of these items we could set up a bloggers tea party right here with Maisy & Daisy. Perhaps you'd like to write a post about this tea party and then place your post link here so we could all join in.

The Ode comes from For the Fallen, a poem by the English poet and writer Laurence Binyon and was published in London in The Winnowing Fan: Poems of the Great War in 1914. This verse, which became the Ode for the Returned and Services League, has been used in association with commemoration services in Australia since 1921.

Teddies to Love - Maisy Bear

When Daisy Bear came into being in the EP Designs studio, so did Maisy Bear - the Socialite.

Maisy Bear loves being out and about, going to any social outing you can think of, Maisy is there - theatre shows, luncheons, dinners, suppers, balls, shopping tours, parties. Maisy loves any excuse for a social gathering. Although , her favourite kind are those held with close friends & family. Wherever she goes Maisy makes sure that everyone has a good time. She brings a smile to any face & joy to every heart.

Never has it been found that anyone in her company has left feeling worse than when they came.

Maisy would just love to sit and have a chat with you, or share some bubbly after exhausting you with her shopping travels.

Daisy Bear

After reading a post on The Tall Poppy about teddy bears, I was prompted to write about my 'recreated' bears. Making or recreating Teddy bears is not my usual craft but a few years back I was inspired to dress up a few cute little bears. I've given them each a name & a little story about them. Here is one of the bears I called Daisy.

HAPPY AT HEART.
Daisy Bear adores her garden. It is her favourite pastime, her passion. And she reaps many rewards from her labours. But Daisy is no selfish bear. She loves to share the fruits of her labour; and many neighbours & friends often find Daisy on their doorstep with an armful of blooms, a pretty bouquet, a basket of fragrant roses, handfuls of spring flowers or a special arrangement of her favourite picks.

Daisy is a special little bear who's found a home with a special little girl.

Open Rose Postcard

I'm not a photographer so I can't boast about taking fantastic photos. My little digital takes mainly product shots for EP Designs & sales on eBay. But I do like taking the odd shot here & there to see how they turn out. When I have my Recreated Treasures out for an Exhibition I try to put together a little scene or collective assortment of items to see if I can come up with an 'arty' shot or something interesting.

I experiment mainly to practice taking photos, to be included for the upgrading of EP Designs. I can't show you any of those just yet but here is a photo of a pretty, pink, open rose. It's not so much the flower but the colour I was wanting to use. It's not a very 'arty' shot but it was just what I was wanting to use for a postcard. I had them printed up so I could send them to customers - to be included with their purchases as a 'thank you'. The front of the postcard simply says "Just for You ..... " The back of the card has a pale grey version of the flower, with a "With Compliments" message for the customer.

Just a small, little 'something' to hopefully bring a smile to their face. The postcard, of course doesn't have my web address sprawled on the middle of the photo as seen here. (What you see is a watermark on this copy of the photo).

At the Beauty Banquet Blog I came across a post about a style finder. This web site helps you to determine you own decorating style. It's in the form of a quiz and is quite fun to do. I had to have a laugh when I did my quiz as I'm supposed to be "Absolutely Fabulous". It's not everyday I get told I'm absolutely fabulous - so something like this can lighten your day a bit too. Blue Jug

This little jug pictured here is one of a number of jugs I painted in 2007. They were a popular item during my Exhibition & Sale. I love seeing the look on people’s faces when they purchase something they really like. What makes it more special is that these pieces are one-of-a-kind works, so when they are bought, customers take with them a design that no one else has. I must admit, I do like working on jugs.

Little Bowl of Yellow Roses

This Recreated piece was in a sad state when I bought it from a recycling yard. Originally it would have had a fixed overhead handle, but the handle must have been long gone before I found the bowl. The silver that did cover it once was also long gone & the bowl needed a good clean & scrub in preparation for the recreation process. This is the final result of that recreation.

The bowl now has a ‘new life’ …. and is indeed in ‘pride-of-place’ in a new home standing proud as gorgeous little Recreated Treasure.

The 2nd blog is to do with my 'soon to come' web site Precious Treasures. This will be a Christian themed web site - Here I will sharing scripture and thoughts about it, plus more of my Recreated Treasures, made especially for Precious Treasures.

I'm really wanting to get back into my painting again, and hopefully this year will be more fruitful. I have lots of ideas to try out so pop in when you can and have a browse through what I've been doing.

It has been along time in planning but it finally came around. Business mums from around Australia came together for an amazing weekend full of business information, ideas, networking & sharing. The theme for this weekend was Soar With the Eagles. We were able to meet new people, meet forum members of the Business Mums Network, listen to inspiring speakers, win fabulous prizes and overall have a wonderful time.

Three Little Jugs

These three little jugs are among some of my favourite recreations. Gorgeous little vases, they stand at about 10 cm tall (4") and have all been sold. I'm always on the lookout for old, pre-loved items. I wander through op-shops with my mind working over potential items. Once I'm home the recreation process begins. And I love transforming pieces from old , rusting , lonely things into gorgeous treasures, just waiting to be added to someone's Precious Collection. Lately I've had a tough time trying to get into my work room (studio) as too many of life's necessities have been begging for my time ...... and unfortunately the hours run out for any creativity. However, I should be getting back on track soon, adding to the collection of Recreations.

Hello from EP Designs

Recreating items into decorative pieces is what I love to do. This was an old wooden compote which I dug up from a recycling yard or op-shop. I enjoy fossicking through these places to see what old, inspiring treasures I can find. Well, perhaps they're unwanted junk to those who have discarded them, but for me they're treasures because I can see the potential in them. Sometimes when I pick up an item I know exactly what I'm going to do with it - I can picture how the new treasure will look when it's finished; and sometimes I simply have a good feeling about a particular item that I find - and when I begin the recreating I just allow the creativity to flow until I'm happy with the finished piece.

This compote is a simple yet elegant piece and I've decided to display this work first as it was the first piece sold internationally, to a customer in the US. (Christmas 2005)
